We are proud to present Petrichor, a solo exhibition featuring the works of JiaHao Peng. The exhibition showcases the artist's stunning photographs capturing the beauty of nature, along with a unique plant installation.
The show is inspired by the artist's love of nature and the daily experiences of living in Southern California, where rarely rains and oftentimes experiences droughts. It is to amplify the feeling of freshness and renewal that comes after rainstorms. Petrichor means the earthy, pleasant smell that occurs when rain falls on dry soil. It is caused by the release of oils and chemicals from the soil and plants, which mix with the moisture in the air. It comes from the Greek words "petra" (stone) and "ichor" (the fluid that flows in the veins of gods in Greek mythology).
The photographs serve as a visual representation of the artist's connection to nature and its transformative power. The plant installation brings an immersive and surreal aspect of the exhibition, with a hanging tamandama and three ground installations of varying sizes, comprising an array of ferns, moss, and orchids. The whole setup also emanates the natural scent of petrichor, creating a multi-sensory experience for the viewer.
The exhibition provides an opportunity for visitors to escape the chaos of the city and immerse themselves in a serene environment, offering a much-needed respite from the hustle and bustle of daily life.
